Totally iconic, the power of the classic white shirt is rivalled by few wardrobe musts. Up there with your fits-me-like-no-other denim, the timeless Trench and LBD, it’s a piece that’s transcended from season-to-season for decades without shift. Subtly revised each season in cut, crispness and small designer detail, it’s feminine appeal never wavers.

For work a sharp collar adds an air of authority, whilst more fluid, blouse-like styles in floating silks, sleeveless shapes and pretty frilled and ruffled pieces lend themselves to all sorts of off-duty styling, from dinner, to date, to leisurely Saturdays out and about. Ever chic and versatile, it’s stiff-cottoned connotations have well and truly been dashed with the abundance of perfect picks now available. The key again, is choosing a version to suit your shape, and where best you can, your colouring. Unbutton the neck and roll up the sleeves on simple pocket-less cuts for curvy, busty Hourglasses; think ruffles, high statement collars and tie-waists for straight bodied Rhubarbs, and look for longer, oversized blouses like the one above for a rounded Apple.

Colour-wise, white is only great for Winters, but can be easily rocked and softened with the addition of a flash of lippy in your perfect pink or red, or accented with either warm golds for both Autumn and Spring, and cool silvers for a dusty Summer. There are plenty of off-white pieces to choose from too, REISS have some beautiful pearl toned pieces, whilst ZARA are consistently great with their lighter linen and voile summer versions, for tones less clear and bright.
