Why not offer Personal Styling to your existing database of clients and double your income?

Why not offer Personal Styling to your existing database of clients and double your income?

At our training academy we train so many different types of women but a growing group is the woman who already is self-employed, either full or part-time. This could be the woman who has a particular skillset such as the Make-up artist, beautician or hairdresser or it could be the sales savvy women selling products such as jewellery (Stella and Dot stylists) or even make-up (Avon or Mary K representatives). One thing all these women have in common is that they already have a database of clients and most importantly they know how to network and market themselves.   These […]

Dreaming of becoming an In-store Personal Shopper?

Dreaming of becoming an In-store Personal Shopper?

A lot has changed since my days of working in Retail a long long time ago. Back then circa 97’ (I said a long long time ago) when I was working as a sales assistant in Harvey Nichols, the route up the career path was: Sales Assistant to Manager to Floor Manager to Senior Management but in the last 5 years a whole new job title has arrived: Personal Shopper. Now most stores from Gap to Harrods have an in-house Personal Shopping team, where appointments are pre-booked, the personal shopper gets a real understanding of her clients brief, including her […]

Can you bring out the best in someone?

Can you bring out the best in someone?

When people enquire on our website to attend one of our training courses we always ask for a phone number, actually unless you give us a number to contact you on the enquiry form doesn’t reach us. Why do we ask for your phone number? It’s because we want to speak to you! Not only to get to know your requirements but essentially to gage if a career in personal styling is actually for you. If we feel it’s not, we promise not to waste your time (and money) giving you false hopes that you’d be great at it. […]

Your first client is you!

Your first client is you!

No matter who walks through the doors of our academy I always say: “your first client is you!” By no means am I trying to insult them by thinking they are not stylish enough to be a Personal Stylist what I’m implying is that there is always room for improvement in everyone of us, myself included. I remember before I went on my own colour analysis training, I honestly thought because I had good youthful olive skin, I could wear any colour I wanted. Wow I was soon (subtly) shown exactly how much older and heavier I could look in […]

What’s the right underwear?

What’s the right underwear?

When I did my training (a very long time ago) with a very famous and expensive training academy one full day was taken up with bra fitting. That’s right we were taught exactly how to measure a client’s bra size. At the time, although painstakingly boring not to mention a little embarrassing I presumed it must have been totally relevant and an essential part of becoming a Personal Stylist. I couldn’t have been more wrong! I soon realised post training when I did take a client bra shopping I was quickly ushered away by the stores professional bra fitter, even […]

Is 50 the new 30?

Is 50 the new 30?

Correct me if I’m wrong but reaching 50 used to mark the beginning of old age, or at least that’s how my mum perceived it as she approached her 50th birthday (15 years ago). But she needn’t have been depressed because her 50’s in reflection were probably her best years yet. Why? Because by the time a woman reaches her 50’s she finally knows who she is! What she has accomplished, whether it’s raising a family, or raising a career, maintaining a long marriage, getting divorced or caring for elderly parents, allows her to accept that she is a survivor […]
