As Personal Stylists we get a lot of different requests, but I have to say my most common one is from single ladies (and a few men) asking for my advice on what to wear on those all-important first few dates. The dating world is ruthless and competitive, it only takes 7 seconds to make a first impression, so the wrong choice of outfit can not only put your date off but will have him back on the dating App in no time; even whilst you pop off to powder your nose!
A lot of my ‘single’ clients will tell me, “We clicked so well on the phone, and we’d been texting loads but then when we met up, he or she just didn’t seem interested!” Ouch, now that can be for several reasons, but when I ask them: “what did you wear?” I generally get the gist, that maybe their look put them off…. After the same result a few times, these lovely singles, soon come looking for me.
There’s a 3-step process I always follow:
- Do their ‘colours’ so that they will know which colours bring out their features, making them look radiant and youthful.
- Visit their wardrobe, to see if they own the right clothes, that flatter their body shape and if so, I’ll put lovely outfits together as choices for the few potential upcoming dates.
- If they don’t own the right look, we’ll go shopping to buy them, their perfect look.
This sounds simple and with the right training it can be, but this is not only about choosing a flattering outfit, very often it’s about building their self-esteem and confidence. For many people, they might be coming out of a divorce, so haven’t dated in years, or for many they’re feeling disillusioned because they’ve been dating for years with no luck.
As personal stylists we must build their trust and confidently chose them outfits that will not only be appropriate for where they might be going, but appropriate for their budget too and choose them outfits that will make that amazing first impression that fit and flatter them perfectly. No pressure then!
If this sounds right up your street and you can imagine styling people for special occasions, especially first dates then you should investigate becoming a Personal Stylist here.
