So what do we mean when we say we are not just Personal Stylists? Well, it was pretty apparent to us when we first ventured into Personal Styling that our services required so much more than a stylish eye.
What we found with clients was that we generally would only get a call when things were stagnating, and they were keen to find a better version of themselves. The first obvious thing to do when you are at a crossroads in your life is to look at how you are presenting yourself. If you’re dressing for the office every day and getting passed up for promotion, the chances are you’ll start to think about what you can do to stand out. If you’ve put on weight and your clothes you once got away with no longer work for you, you’re going to want to learn how to dress your new shape and enlist the help of a stylist. If you’re a stay at home Mum who spends her day in jeans but needs to support her Husband at high society functions, you’re going to need a whole new wardrobe so that you look the part, and if you’re in front of the camera and need to find your own personal style then a stylist will become your best friend.
These are the examples we tell anyone interested in becoming a Personal Stylist as it is so important you can really identify with your client and the reasons why they are booking a Styling session with you.
The start of the journey when you become a Personal Stylist with Style ME training really begins with you. What we mean by that is, as your trainers, we need to find out what your reasons for getting into this field are and understand what your day to day life looks like. We need to get you comfortable with your own body shape and fall in love with your assets and embrace your flaws.
What we say at Style ME Training is that your first client is you. Once you have totally figured out how to dress and shop for your shape, only then will you be able to show empathy and understanding towards the clients who are willing to pay for your help and advice.
Just like a hairdresser is able to gain someone’s trust to completely re-style their hair, as a Stylist will be getting upfront and personal with your client and finding out everything about their lifestyle and it’s a very intimate thing to share. One minute you may be having a coffee and finding out why they have booked your services, and the next you could be in their bedroom doing their colour analysis session before going through their entire wardrobe!
Once you have built trust with your client, chances are you will hear all about what has led them to book in with you and it is your job to listen to their story. Many clients have hit a brick wall by the time they have called you so it is up to you to alleviate any fears they may have about what you are going to dress them in and compliment them as you start to reveal their best features.
If you think you are a people’s person and would be a great Personal Stylist then get in touch and find out about the most rewarding job ever.
The Personal Stylist training is the easy part so if you love helping others…we think you’d be great at what we do.
